BACLIFF, Texas — A man already charged in connection with two decades-old Texas Killing Fields cases is now facing two additional felony charges after authorities searched his Bacliff property.
James Dolphs Elmore Jr., 61, has been charged with possession of child pornography and possession of visual material depicting sexual assault, according to Galveston County court documents.
The new charges come after investigators served search warrants at Elmore’s Bacliff property on April 16 as part of the ongoing investigation into the Texas Killing Fields cases.
Elmore was previously arrested in March on charges tied to the deaths of Laura Miller and Audrey Lee Cook, two women whose cases have long been connected to the area known as the Texas Killing Fields.
Authorities said Elmore was charged with manslaughter and tampering with evidence in connection with Miller’s death. He was also charged with tampering with evidence in connection with Cook’s death.
According to search warrant records, investigators said Elmore’s phone, which was taken when he was indicted in March, allegedly contained multiple images believed to be child sexual abuse material.
The warrant called for investigators to examine computers, phones, storage devices and other electronic media found at the home for potential evidence related to possession or promotion of child pornography. The warrant also referenced the possible identification of other victims of child sexual exploitation.
A separate search warrant was also served at the property as investigators looked for possible human remains.
Authorities later confirmed the search for human remains at the property had ended. No human remains were found.
The investigation is part of a renewed effort by Galveston County prosecutors and law enforcement to revisit the Texas Killing Fields cases, which have haunted the Houston-Galveston area for decades.
The cases are connected to multiple women whose bodies were found near Calder Road and Ervin Street in League City between the 1980s and early 1990s.
Elmore remains in the Galveston County Jail on combined bonds totaling $4.5 million.
A trial date has been set for Aug. 31.
