There was a quiet, reflective feeling at the AISD Memorial Garden earlier today as the Angleton Alumni Association gathered with families, friends, alumni, and district staff to dedicate a new addition to the space.
The expansion was created to honor students and AISD employees who passed away while they were part of the district community people who once filled classrooms, walked the same hallways, and were known and loved by those around them.
The students remembered in the new installation include Peighton Brown, Logan Rizo Cruz, Wyatt Cruz, Justin Hardeway, Austin Wade Hinesley, Bentley Moreno, and Ke’Mari Williams. AISD staff members Rebecca DeLeon, Derick Harris, and John Prutzman were also honored for their service and the lasting impact they made during their time with the district.
As names were reflected on and shared, the moment carried a sense of both grief and gratitude. Grief for lives gone too soon, and gratitude for the memories, influence, and presence they left behind in the community.
Special appreciation was given to the Angleton Alumni Association for continuing to care for and expand the memorial, and especially to the Class of 1967. They were the original group who created the garden in memory of their own classmates, and their efforts have grown into something that now represents many generations of AISD families.
What started as a simple act of remembrance has become a lasting place for the community to return to remember, to honor, and to make sure these names are never forgotten.
