ANGLETON, Texas — Angleton seniors looking for a way to beat the July heat will not have to look far.
The City of Angleton Parks & Recreation Department’s Silver Hearts program has released its July 2026 newsletter, and the calendar is packed with activities designed to keep local residents active, connected and out of the summer sun.
From bingo and chair volleyball to potlucks, Lunch and Learn programs, fitness classes, ice cream socials and out-of-town trips, the Silver Hearts lineup gives older residents in Angleton and the surrounding Brazoria County area a full month of reasons to stay involved.
The newsletter also notes that July is Parks and Recreation Month, with Angleton celebrating the role parks and recreation programs play in keeping the community active.
July Brings Indoor Activities, Social Events and Senior Programs
The Silver Hearts newsletter opens with a simple message for July: stay hydrated, pace yourself and take advantage of indoor activities during the summer heat.
For many local seniors, that means the Angleton Recreation Center will serve as a key gathering place throughout the month.
Regular activities include Silver Heart Tuesdays, which begin with breakfast at 9 a.m. before moving into games, social time and bingo at 11 a.m. On the third Tuesday of the month, the group plays Bunco at 9:30 a.m. before bingo. Participants are asked to register ahead for Bunco because the game requires 12 people.
The newsletter also lists chair volleyball every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to noon, free for those 55 and older, along with Bean Bag Baseball on July 13 and July 27 from 11 a.m. to noon.
A VERSUS game day is scheduled for July 15 at 11 a.m. in the multipurpose rooms. Spots are limited, and participants are encouraged to register at the front desk.
Lunch and Learn Programs Include Fire Department and Sheriff’s Office Tours
Silver Hearts is also offering educational programs through its Lunch and Learn series.
On July 23, participants can take part in an Angleton Fire Department tour followed by fried chicken. On August 6, the program will feature a Brazoria County Sheriff’s Department tour followed by Luigi’s pasta.
Both Lunch and Learn events begin at 11 a.m. and are listed as free for those 55 and older. Registration is available online or at the Angleton Recreation Center.
Potlucks, Bingo and Breakfast Give Seniors More Ways to Gather
The July newsletter also includes a Potluck series, encouraging seniors to bring a favorite dish and enjoy fellowship with others.

Each potluck begins at 11 a.m. and requires registration online or at the Angleton Recreation Center.
Bingo remains a major part of the Silver Hearts calendar, but the newsletter notes that registration has changed due to increased participation. Bingo registration now opens the Monday before each session. To register, participants should call 979-849-4364, option 5. Those who cannot attend after registering are asked to cancel so others can participate.
A separate Family Bingo Night is scheduled for Friday, August 7 at 6:30 p.m. The luau-themed event will include fun, prizes and snacks. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. The entry fee is $5.
A Breakfast Bunch outing is also scheduled for Friday, July 17 at 8 a.m. at Burnt Biscuit in Brazoria. The bus fee is $6, and breakfast is sponsored by Carriage Inn. A minimum of 12 registered participants is needed for the trip to occur.
Trips Include Friendswood Theater, Blue Bell Ice Creamery and Austin
Silver Hearts is also offering several trips beyond Angleton.
On Sunday, July 26, the group will travel to Friendswood for a performance of the murder-mystery musical “Curtains” at The Purple Box Theater. After the show, participants will have dinner at Olive Garden in Alvin. The trip runs from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and costs $20.
A trip to the Blue Bell Ice Creamery in Brenham is scheduled for Wednesday, August 12, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Participants will tour the facility from the observation deck, visit the gift shop and enjoy Blue Bell Ice Cream before stopping at the Afterton at Lonestar Southern Grill for lunch. The trip fee is $10.
For seniors looking for a bigger getaway, Silver Hearts is planning an overnight trip to Austin from September 30 to October 1. The trip includes dinner, a guided Capitol tour and the Congress Avenue Bridge Bat Tour. The group will stay at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Austin.
The listed fee is $160 for a single room or $95 per person for double occupancy, including the bat-watching ticket. The trip is open to those 55 and older, and participants must have a roommate when signing up for double occupancy.
Parks and Recreation Month Includes Free Ice Cream and Outdoor Events
The newsletter also highlights several events tied to Parks and Recreation Month.
On July 10, Movies at the ARC will feature “Space Jam” beginning at 8:30 p.m.
On July 17, the ARC will host an Ice Cream Social for National Ice Cream Day. The first 150 ARC visitors will receive a free cup of ice cream beginning at 1 p.m.
On July 22, residents can attend Sunset Yoga at Lakeside Park beginning at 7:30 p.m. Participants are asked to bring a mat and water.
On July 31, the KSBJ Ice Cream Emergency will visit Lakeside Park from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. for free Blue Bell Ice Cream.

The Silver Hearts newsletter also thanked several July sponsors for in-kind donations to the program.
Recognized sponsors include Dee’s Best Donuts of Angleton, IPH of Lake Jackson, Carriage Inn and Henderson Grove Apartments.
Carriage Inn is also listed as sponsoring breakfast for the Breakfast Bunch outing, while the Summer Line Dancing Party notes sponsorship support for the instructor.
